Where to start when planning a wedding
So presumably you’ve just got engaged (many many congrats!) and we're also going to assume you’ve told your loved ones of the wonderful news. Your first step needs to be finalising your preferred dates, discussing what kind & style of wedding you would like and then having a preliminary look at potential wedding locations and venues. Once you’ve got some wedding locations & venues in mind, it’s time to finalize the budget and shortlist your favorite venues based on that budget. Everything stems from there, the budget & the venue.
When to start wedding planning
In an ideal world, you’d give yourself a full 12 months to plan your wedding. This will give you ample time to make decisions, get your dream venue and book your ideal vendors, without feeling rushed.
Why is planning a wedding so stressful?
Planning a wedding can be very stressful because there are so many things to think about and so many decisions to make. But don't worry, you're not alone! There are plenty of resources available to help you plan your big day, and with a little bit of organization and patience, you'll be able to pull off the wedding of your dreams.
There are two fundamental rules to help reduce the amount of stress associated with planning a wedding:
- Use a checklist and stick to it: Mark down the absolute priorities on this checklist. This will help you stay organized and ensure that you don't forget anything important to you.
- Delegate tasks wherever possible. If you have friends or family members who are willing to help out, let them! It
Things to consider when planning a wedding
Honestly, this list could be endless, but the 3 main priorities should be: budget, location/venue and style. Everything stems from these three decisions.
How long does wedding planning take
Gosh, this is a tough one to answer because there are so many factors to consider. How large a wedding, where is the wedding, budget in mind, how many people you’re inviting to mention a few. The ideal however is 12 months, but it’s definitely possible to do in three months if everything works in the favor of speed. Of course, an elopement can be done in 24 hours! :)
How involved should the groom be in the wedding planning
Putting traditions aside, and in the interests of having a “happy wife, happy life” being prepared and involved is key to supporting your wife. Make her day special by helping out where you can or where she’d at least like you to be. Just like the bride usually contributes to planning the wedding, the groom should make sure they have a say in anything you’re asked to take part in.
How involved should parents be in wedding planning
Again, putting traditions aside. How involved your parents are in the planning should depend on how involved you want them to be. A polite but firm “thank you, it’s all in order” should be enough to keep them out of the way if you’d prefer it that way.
How to get fiance to help with wedding planning
One great way to get your fiance involved in wedding planning is to start by coming up with a list of priorities together. What's most important to both of you? Maybe it's the location, the food, or the music. Once you have a list of priorities, you can start dividing up the tasks associated with each one.
If he's not interested in making decisions about specific aspects of the wedding, try giving him some choices instead. For example, if he doesn't care what color the bridesmaid dresses are, give him two or three options and let him choose one. He'll feel like he's still contributing and you'll be happy that he has a say in at least some parts of your big day
Can you plan a wedding by yourself?
Absolutely! Whether it’s an ideal scenario is a different question. My hubby will testify to the fact that he really wasn’t that involved in the wedding planning process (and somewhat regrets it now). And I would have definitely preferred for him to have been more involved. That said, I made it happen and it was a truly beautiful day that I wouldn’t change for the world.
Why hire a wedding planner?
In a nutshell, because a wedding planner can take the stress out of wedding planning and make the process enjoyable. They have the experience and expertise to handle all the details so that you can relax and enjoy your engagement. Although a wedding planner is an additional cost, they can also save you money by helping you stay within budget and avoid costly mistakes.
